Why?

In a these trying economic times, one often finds references to the good ol’ days of high unemployment. Images of the Great Depression are sprinkled with stories of more woe on Wallstreet. A common image of American lore is the hobo. Commonly thought of as a gentleman in tattered clothing toting a makeshift bag tied to a stick, hobos are depicted as itinerant job seekers, using freight trains to find work in far off cities. Why, you ask, does one use an anachronistic image to describe himself? The job market has not treated yours truly with the most respect. In fact, it’s been quite hostile. Having a penchant for running long distances or toting my personal belongings on my back into the wilderness for days at a time, I decided that instead of waiting for America’s job market to invite me back, I would go see America on foot. I have now hiked the Katy Trail, The Ozark Highland Trail and most recently, the Ozark Trail in pursuit of enlightenment. As the title of my blog says, I am interested in the act of educating while moving about. This blog is to host a dialogue of trail experiences, my travels, and musings on life in general. Like a true hobo, I hope to find some gainful employment in the process of my journey.
